CINEBATA: Three short films

Tijdens BATAFEST wordt zaal 2.8 op de tweede verdieping van het Batavierhuis omgetoverd tot CINEBATA, een gezellige kleine bioscoop waar korte films, animaties en documentaires van kunstenaars van het Batavierhuis worden vertoond. Gedurende het festival vinden er drie verschillende vertoningen plaats. De filmmakers zullen aanwezig zijn om hun werk te introduceren, een kijkje te geven in het filmproces en samen met het publiek deel te nemen aan een vraag-en-antwoordronde.

Het derde blok van CINEBATA bestaat uit drie korte films:

Inkfish (8 min, 2024)

Een jonge componiste, die worstelt met het bedenken van een melodie, vindt onverwachte inspiratie bij een stille inktvis, die haar bewust maakt van de verborgen trillingen van de wereld. De film ontvouwt zich als een lied en bouwt via dissonantie en ontdekking op naar een krachtig crescendo, waarbij wordt onthuld hoe onzichtbare ritmes de muziek van het bestaan vormgeven.

Alla Tarantella (3 min, 2024)

Regisseur en animator Gideon van der Stelt en het gerenommeerde Amsterdam Sinfonietta doen de geest van Schulhoff herleven met ‘Alla Tarantella’, het opwindende slotdeel van zijn kwartet. De tarantella roept zowel de wolfspin als de hectische Italiaanse dans op en vormt daarmee de perfecte basis voor een videoclip die een speels eerbetoon is aan het tijdperk waarin Erwin Schulhoff de Berlijnse podia vulde met muziek, vreugde en onstuimige inventiviteit.

Quitte (11 min, 2026)

Hoe een disfunctionele gezinsdynamiek twee zussen, die elkaar wanhopig nodig hebben, op pijnlijke wijze uit elkaar drijft.

During BATAFEST, room 2.8 on the second floor of Batavierhuis will transform into CINEBATA, a cozy little cinema showcasing short films, animations, and documentaries created by Batavierhuis artists. Across the festival, there will be three different screenings. The filmmakers will be present to introduce their work, share insights into the filmmaking process, and join the audience for a Q&A.

The third block of CINEBATA consists of three short films:

Inkfish (8 min, 2024)

A young composer, struggling to create a melody, finds unexpected inspiration from a silent squid, awakening her to the hidden vibrations of the world. The film unfolds like a song, building through discord and discovery toward a powerful crescendo, revealing how unseen rhythms shape the music of existence.

Alla Tarantella (3 min, 2024)

Director and animator Gideon van der Stelt and the renowned Amsterdam Sinfonietta revive the spirit of Schulhoff with ‘Alla Tarantella’, the exhilarating final movement of his quartet. The tarantella evokes both the wolf spider and the frenetic Italian dance, providing the perfect form for a music video that is a playful tribute to the era in which Erwin Schulhoff filled Berlin’s stages with music, joy, and restless invention.
