Yiorgos Bereris presents his new album Sea in Common.Moving between jazz and world music, Yiorgos…

Yiorgos Bereris presents his new album Sea in Common.

Moving between jazz and world music, Yiorgos Bereris draws inspiration from Greek and Balkan traditions, bringing together a band of outstanding musicians featuring violin, viola, double bass, drums, and himself on the piano.

His new album Sea in Common was conceived through journeys across the Mediterranean and the Balkans. It reflects shared soundscapes — sea and wind, the hum of cities, festive gatherings, and the steady pulse of everyday life — transforming these impressions into a musical language that feels both intimate and expansive.

This concert is part of an album release tour with performances in more than six countries across Europe.

Yiorgos Bereris is a Greek pianist and composer based in Rotterdam. In recent years he has collaborated with musicians from the European jazz and world music scene such as Kudsi Erguner, Alba Careta, Tereza Catarov, Kyriakos Sfetsas, and Tristan Driessens. He has performed at venues and festivals including North Sea Jazz Festival, Athens Jazz Festival, Nisville Jazz Festival, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), Jamboree (Barcelona), Assejazz (São Paulo), the Greek National Opera, Vortex (London), JazzX (Timișoara), and the Boston Conservatory Theater (USA).

Following his previous works Laros and Sigá y Silente, Bereris continues to refine a compositional voice that is distinctive and assured, further consolidating his artistic identity.

Line-up

Yiorgos Bereris — piano
Yvonne Melissa — violin & viola
Lambros Papanikolaou — double bass
Ektoras Remsak — drums

A TRE VOCI

Three singers from three different countries, united by their love of three-part harmonies, share their passion. With only three voices, countless extraordinary melodies, harmonies, and rhythms have been created around the world.

In many polyphonic cultures, three-part singing forms the foundation of local vocal traditions. In Georgia, the three voices are known as Modzakhili, Mtkmeli, and Bani; in Corsica as Terza, Seconda, and Bassu; in Bistritsa, Bulgaria, they are called Okane, Buchat pravo, and Buchat krivo — and the list goes on.

In A Tre Voci, the three voices are Maryana Golovchenko, Nadine Rossello, and Tatiana Lina. Come and experience their interpretations of Corsican, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Georgian, and other traditional songs.

Each singer brings her own expertise to this experimental project.

Maryana Golovchenko is a singer, musician, cultural entrepreneur, and researcher. Her current focus lies in combining traditional music from Eastern Europe and Ukraine with contemporary musical styles — from classical to jazz and electronic music — as well as with musical traditions from other countries and continents.

Nadine Rossello is a singer, musician, composer, choir conductor, and trainer, specialising in Mediterranean songs and both traditional and contemporary Corsican polyphony.

Tatiana Lina is a singer, musician, composer, choir conductor, and researcher. For more than twenty years, she has studied traditional polyphonic music from various countries and shares this knowledge with her choirs and vocal ensembles.

This concert will be part of the CULTURE UNLIMITED FESTIVAL 2026.

ENG:
In his search for what life has brought him so far, guitarist Pieter Nanne follows up his performance “Een kwestie van zaad” (A Matter of Seed) with his new theater piece “Wie denk ik wel dat ik ben?” (Who Do I Think I Am?). The core is a scenario about what approaching old age brings: physical decline versus mental growth, where does the musician find the richness of aging, what is his value in that final phase of life?

Pieter Nanne seems to expose not only himself, but above all the charm and vulnerability of the guitar in tranquil music with character, in which the lyrics confront and the listener can find themselves.

As a guitarist, teacher, organizer, partner, father, grandfather, and champion of vulnerability as a quality of the guitar, Pieter Nanne showcases himself in this musical theater production.
A life in the service of the guitar. After five turbulent years, life has brought him that which he has been searching for 60 years. The journey to the final chord can now be lived - to the fullest.
_________________________________________

This concert is hosted by Batavier Tim Panman.

The Label is focusing on experimental music and improvisation. The label nights want to give space to improvised music and to give a chance to the audience to meet the musicians in an informal environment, browse and rummage through their releases and merchandise and maybe find little treasures.

The first night will be fully acoustic, in the beautiful hall of Batavierhuis: six musicians, three sets in three different formations.

During the evening it will be possible to buy the merch from all the invited musicians and the label itself.

Dorota Marföldi Matejová – flute
Bernat Boronat – Bass Clarinet
Luke {LISA} Deane – Piano
Christine Cornwell – Violin
Clara Torner – Cello
Lucija Gregov – Cello

Dorota Matejová is a traverso & wooden flutes player, composer-performer, poet and educator. As a musician with experimental, contemporary, early, improvised and club music background, she has embodied all of these influences, while becoming an experienced physical performer in music, theatre, dance and interdisciplinary contexts, and creating music-movement poetry performances and encounters.

Bernat Boronat (Alzira-Valencia) is a clarinetist and improviser based in Rotterdam, with a dedicated focus on exploring extended techniques and new sounds within the bass clarinet and other non-conventional instruments. In his solo work, Bernat pays attention to the inherent qualities of the instrument, enabling them to unfold naturally through assistance rather than rigid control.

Luke {LISA} Deane is a non-binary conceptual composer, experimental vocalist and teacher. Whether in collaborations or through creating new instruments or scores, Luke’s work illuminates self-expression particularly through melody, while Lisa’s voice strikes a more socio-political tone, raising questions about how we show or don’t show our emotions.

Christine Cornwell is a composer-violinist-organiser based in Rotterdam. Moving between performing and facilitating roles, she steadily and collaboratively creates spaces for multiple perspectives to be present. She plays with local bands across scenes and genres, weaving noisy and timbral gestures into performances and spaces she finds herself in. Christine is currently artist in residence at Theater Babel.

Clara Torner (Barcelona, 1997) creates spontaneous sonic ecosystems on a prepared cello, exploring memory and fragmentation. Her music spans delicate, crystalline textures to energetic, unrestrained sounds, often in collaboration with dance and visual arts.

Lucija Gregov is a cellist and improviser. She has been developing projects and researching in the fields of classical music, electro acoustic music, improvisation, experimental music, radio and sound art. Through many interdisciplinary collaborations, Lucija seeks to push the boundaries of traditional cello playing which further extend her interpretation, technique and ideas.

NL
Sliding scale tickets: 7,00 - 9,00 - 12,00 - 15,00
Voor iedereen toegankelijk, pay what you can!

Sliding scale tickets: 7,00 - 9,00 - 12,00 - 15,00
Open to everyone, pay what you can!
There is no difference in price categories, you can decide where you’d like to sit upon
arrival.

Some music grows out of a place the way olives do — slowly, stubbornly, deeply…

Some music grows out of a place the way olives do — slowly, stubbornly, deeply rooted. Kalares is a hill near Skalani, in the Heraklion region of Crete, where both Socrates and Kyriakos have their fields. It is also the name they gave their duo.

Kyriakos grew up in Archanes, a village with a rich musical heritage in the heart of Crete, learning his craft not in a classroom but by playing alongside the elders who kept these traditions alive. He plays the bulgari, a long-necked stringth isntrument closely related to the Baglama, an instrument whose roots run deep through the musical history of the Mediterranean. Together with guitar, the two instruments weave an intimate, earthy sound where different shores of the same sea quietly meet.

Socrates grew up in the city of Heraklion, where two musical loves took hold early: the raw, rootsy sound of prewar blues from the American South, and the traditional music of his own Cretan surroundings. Two friends, a village and a city. Two roads that led to the same hill.

The programme features traditional Cretan music — lyrical, rhythmic, and deeply connected to the land — alongside a selection of rebetiko, the urban Greek blues born in the port cities of the early 20th century. Both traditions share the same ancient Mediterranean soul, making them natural companions.

This is music that comes from somewhere real. From a hill, an olive grove, and a life lived close to tradition.

Line-up:
Kyriakos Manias – bulgari (Cretan saz)
Socrates Vakirtzian – guitar

— Volkskrant (4 sterren)

Vox Sturnus bestaat uit:
Margriet Sjoerdsma (NL) – zang, gitaar | Maryana Golovchenko (UA) – zang | Thora Sveinsdottir (IS) – zang, altviool | Annie Tangberg (NO) – zang, cello | Julia Werner (NL) – zang, gitaar, percussie | Anne Marie Roel Messerschmidt (DK) – zang, percussie

This album proposes a unifying role of the Latin Guitar by melting Afro Cuban and Brazilian repertoire. In order to modernize the sound of the nylon string guitar, the double bass of Lautaro Vergara and drums of Enrico Locci are added. This trio plays in the borders of genres: the classical influence of the solo guitar pieces and bow-played double bass can be heard. The jazz influence of harmony, improvisation and theme-structured pieces as well. But this happens at the same time that the traditional rhythms and grooves are not only preserved and respected but are actually the starting-point of the project. This trio is a product of the multiculturality of Rotterdam, which sees the
opportunity to unify such rich cultural diversity through music.

Line-up:
Ivan Laranjeiro - Acoustic Guitar
Lautaro Vergara - Double Bass
Enrico Locci - Drums

A Portrayal of the Latin Guitar.

Bezetting:
Ivan Laranjeiro - Akoestische gitaar
Lautaro Vergara - Contrabas
Enrico Locci - Drums
