Tarang Poddar is a tabla player, percussionist and educator from India. Having studied the North Indian Classical music through a rigid Guru -Student system for over 15 years, he is now based in the Netherlands since 2017.
After graduating with an award winning research ‘Applying North Indian rhythmic systems to Jazz related music styles’ in his Masters at Codarts Rotterdam, he continues to build and perform with his projects, and as a freelancer. He is currently performing with his projects Gandhaya Quartet, Cobogó and Sufidelica across the Netherlands and Europe. Tarang’s music constantly bridges cultures and improvised music genres from across the world, including Jazz, Indian Classical and Brazilian.
He dives deep into philosophies and spiritual practices, mainly but not just from India, which helps him find purpose and meaning to his art. Philosophy and practice in directions such as Yoga, Vipassana, Flow and Effortless Mastery (Kenny Werner) all contribute to his artistic and human personality.
In recent times, he has also been a regular collaborator with Contemporary Dance and Theater, having toured with NITE/Club Guy and Roni’s ‘Fortune’ across the Netherlands and regular collaborations with O. Festival Rotterdam among others.
