Silvia Gallego jumped into the classical world at the age of 8 years old at the conservatory in Cartagena, Spain. She fell in love with the double bass but her size only allowed her to play the cello with bass tuning for a couple of years. Once she could grab the bass, she never left it.
She moved to Amsterdam to do her bachelor’s degree where she graduated in 2020 with Olivier Thiery. During that time, she developed her playing in many youth orchestras and festivals like SHMF, JONDE, NJO, Mahler academy etc.
She is passionate about the orchestra but she is also fascinated about chamber music and smaller formations. Within The Netherlands she regularly plays with Kamerorkest van het Noorden, RPHO, PhilZuid, Pynarello.
This season she is deepening into the orchestra since she just started the academy at Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
One of the things she enjoys the most in The Netherlands is the openness and the mix of cultures, how traditional and experimental music come together and they live together creating something new.
