Hedendaagse klassieke muziek heeft een ietwat slecht imago. Gestoord, puur experimenteel, provocerend en het wel-bekende: Mijn 5 jarige nichtje kan dat ook! Wij zijn het daar echter niet mee eens. De moderne tijd heeft een aantal van de meest kleurrijke en expressieve stukken muziek voortgebracht. Net als bij een Kandinsky schilderij gaat het niet langer om het daadwerkelijke object van het schilderij, maar nemen de contouren, het kleurenpalet en de algehele impressie van het werk een veel prominentere plek in. In plaats van dat het onderwerp door de schilder voor de toeschouwer bij voorbaat al wordt bepaald, biedt een schilder als Kandinsky elk individu de ruimte om als het ware middels hun eigen interpretatie het werk echt af te maken. Met muziek is het niet anders. Abraham Gomez en Matthijs van Wijhe nemen u mee op een muzikale reis naar wellicht onbekend, maar ongetwijfeld spannend terrein.
Contemporary classical music has somewhat of a bad image. Crazy, purely experimental, provocative and the often uttered remark: My 5 year-old niece can do that too! We, however, disagree. Some of the most colourful and expressive music can be found in the modern age. Just as with a Kandinsky painting, the main focus is not anymore the actual object itself, but rather it’s the contours, the colour-composition and the overal impression and abstraction that take a more prominent place. Instead of dictating what the piece is supposed to be, the atmosphere the piece invokes is different for each person ane allows each individual to truly finish the piece through their own unique gaze. With contemporary music, it is no different. Abraham Gomez and Matthijs van Wijhe take you on a musical journey through perhaps unknown, but exciting territory.
