Vernon Chatlein is an award winning theatermaker, composer and percussionist of many colors. Originating from Curaçao, he lived in Cuba for two years, studying music there. He moved to the Netherlands in 2009 to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Chatlein has three Albums in his name. Inner silence speaks to his search as a young Caribbean man living in the busy city of Amsterdam. His second album Peace, Love & Music (2017), Vernon connected jazz and latin jazz with the rhythms of the Dutch Antilles. In 2024 Chatlein was award the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prijs for his work as an artist, performer and theatermaker.
Vernon Chatlein will present works that have evolved from the research project that he embarked on while staying in Curaçao during the pandemic. His exploration of the ¾ century old sound archive called Zikinza led him through the history of Afro-Curaçaoan music, and taught him about its contributors and pioneers. As a first result in 2021, he brought Voices from Letters: Imershón to the stage, a theatrical ode to his ancestors. Chatlein i su Zumbi is the next step, fueled by the mysterious musical style indigenous to Curaçao called Muzik di Zumbi. Expect a blend of traditional percussion and rhythms from Curaçao and the Caribbean. Chatlein i su Zumbi is setting the new tone for Afro-Caribbean Improvised Music.

Inner Silence vertelt over zijn zoektocht als jonge Caribische man die in de drukke stad Amsterdam woonde. Op zijn tweede album Peace, Love & Music (2017) verbond Vernon jazz en latin jazz met de ritmes van de Nederlandse Antillen. In 2024 ontving Chatlein de Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prijs voor zijn werk als kunstenaar, performer en theatermaker.
