Global Music Nights presents a series of double bills where tradition and folklore meet new perspectives. Each evening pairs an established name with a promising emerging act: two artists, two distinct styles, and two unique musical stories. Discover four nights of exceptional music, featuring both familiar names and exciting new talent!
1st concert
Johannes Fend (solo)
Austrian bassist and composer Johannes Fend invites the audience on a sonic journey. His music is an exploration of the remarkable spectrum of sounds and expressions that the double bass has to offer, moving somewhere between jazz, classical and ambient. With subtle use of effects, he creates a cinematic sound world that ranges from intimate and delicate to powerful and expansive.
Alongside music from his solo repertoire, Fend will present new compositions from his upcoming album, created in collaboration with Swedish painter Agneta Ekman. Together, they are developing a story that unfolds through both music and painting, bringing two art forms into dialogue. Some of Ekman's paintings may also be presented digitally during the concert.
The Rotterdam-based artist was invited to perform a solo concert at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, received second prize at the Il Sole in Cantina Award with his solo project, and was named Best Soloist at the Erasmus Jazz Prize.Expect an intimate, adventurous and surprising concert centred around the double bass, a musical journey that is best experienced live.

With Perseverancia, BEATRIZ presents an album deeply rooted in Cuba’s rich musical heritage, while constantly moving forward.
Pianist and bandleader Laura Beatriz Argudin Tella, born in Havana, grew up in a musical family. Her father is Latin jazz legend Rodolfo Argudin “Peruchín”, and her great-grandfather was the iconic pianist Pedro Justiz “Peruchín”.
The six musicians of Beatriz put their own spin on Cuban rhythms, ranging from son montuno to Latin jazz. Their music is warm, rhythmic and energetic, with plenty of room for improvisation and interplay. From their base in Rotterdam, the band brings the atmosphere of Havana to the stage, with Perseverancia marking a new chapter in their musical career.

Elke avond staat een gevestigde naam naast een veelbelovende opkomende act: twee artiesten, twee verschillende stijlen en ieder hun eigen muzikale verhaal. 1e concert
Johannes Fend (solo)
De Oostenrijkse bassist en componist Johannes Fend neemt het publiek mee op een muzikale ontdekkingsreis.
Zijn muziek verkent het bijzondere klankpalet en de expressieve mogelijkheden van de contrabas, ergens tussen jazz, klassiek en ambient. Met subtiel gebruik van effecten creëert hij een filmische klankwereld die varieert van intiem en verfijnd tot krachtig en meeslepend.
Naast muziek uit zijn solorepertoire speelt Fend nieuwe composities van zijn aankomende album, dat hij samen met de Zweedse schilder Agneta Ekman ontwikkelt. Samen werken ze aan een verhaal dat zich ontvouwt door zowel muziek als schilderkunst, waarbij de twee kunstvormen met elkaar in dialoog gaan. Tijdens het concert worden mogelijk ook enkele schilderijen van Ekman digitaal vertoond.
De in Rotterdam gevestigde muzikant werd uitgenodigd voor een soloconcert bij het Austrian Cultural Forum in New York. Met zijn soloproject behaalde hij de tweede prijs bij de Il Sole in Cantina Award en werd hij uitgeroepen tot Best Soloist tijdens de Erasmus Jazz Prijs.
Verwacht een intiem, avontuurlijk en verrassend concert waarin de contrabas centraal staat. Een muzikale reis die je het best live kunt beleven.
2e concert

Met Perseverancia presenteert BEATRIZ een album waarin de muzikale erfenis van Cuba volop klinkt, maar nooit stilstaat. Pianist en bandleider Laura Beatriz Argudin Tella, geboren in Havana, groeide op in een muzikale familie. Haar vader is latin-jazzlegende Rodolfo Argudin ‘Peruchín’ en haar overgrootvader de iconische pianist Pedro Justiz ‘Peruchín’.
De zes muzikanten van Beatriz geven hun eigen draai aan Cubaanse ritmes, van son montuno tot latin jazz. De muziek is warm, ritmisch en energiek, met ruimte voor improvisatie en samenspel. Vanuit Rotterdam brengt de band de sfeer van Havana naar het podium, met Perseverancia als nieuw hoofdstuk in hun muzikale verhaal.
