Born in India and based in the Netherlands, Tarang Poddar is a tabla player, composer, and bandleader working at the intersection of Indian classical music, jazz, and contemporary world traditions. Shaped through the discipline and rigor of the guru-led tradition, he grew up accompanying leading Indian classical artists and performing as a tabla soloist, developing a deep rhythmic authority early on.
Alongside this foundation, Tarang moves fluently between jazz drumming, flamenco percussion, and Brazilian rhythmic concepts adapted to the tabla. His work spans concerts, theater, and original compositions, shaped by an ongoing dialogue between traditions rather than allegiance to a single genre. Grounded yet exploratory, his music reflects a lifetime of listening, exchange, and refined control of rhythm as a language.
During this concert, Tarang and Loek collaborate with young artists from the Dutch jazz and world music scene, performing several of his arrangements. A jam session will follow after the concert.
