Eva Sánchez-Vegazo

Recently winner of the Academy of Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Eva Sánchez-Vegazo is a Spanish cellist currently studying her Master’s degree with Prof. Giovanni Gnocchi at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. Born in 1999 into a non-musical family in Barcelona, she started playing cello at age four with Eulalia Subirá, following the Suzuki method.

In 2017 she started her Bachelor’s degree with Prof. Lluís Claret, first at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu and then at the New England Conservatory in Boston, USA, where she graduated in 2022. In 2023, she became a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, playing at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg amongst other venues, under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach, Ton Koopman, Michael Sanderling, Ruth Reinhardt, Holly Choe. After winning a position in the EUYO European Union Youth Orchestra, she went on the 2025 Summer Tour where she got to perform with conductors Vasily Petrenko and Iván Fisher in halls around Europe, such as Berlin Konzerthaus and Concertgebouw. Professionally speaking, she has played with the Philharmonie Salzburg, being selected as an Academist for two seasons, as well as with the Tiroler Symphonieorchester in Innsbruck as a substitute. This season, she will be playing with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra,working with chief conductor Lahav Shani.
